EL3A seems to be impossible. Must be RL3A. Something is wrong with his TX. And Yk9kj even more impossible))) There were two stations calling Y...something and K9KJ )))) Still, I am enjoying your pile up👍
You’re correct according to my error report 😂
Hey Jay, I think I listen all your videos while working! Question: do you struggle sending numbers in high speed? I need to fix that on me haha 73!
Yes ! I rxed my error report from Cq wpx and my error rate was 6%. With most of them being busted numbers. Mainly 2,3 and 6,7s. I’ve struggled with this for years now. I don’t think Morse runner has an accurate run for practicing numbers. It always starts at 1. I need practice with 4 digit numbers with some cut numbers thrown in. 😂 maybe rufXP would work better for that. Sending with good paddles help a bit but my number is 3239. I always screw that up man. Let me know if you find a better training method for numbers.
1st was HG6C. P3AA was working with somebody else😅 And please, could you tell me how do you record your sound from your radio?
@@nul153 yeah I got my error report yesterday. Haha I use software called OBS studio. I use a mono to mono from the external speaker Jack to the computer.
@@JayN4GO Thank you, Jay! Do you use the microphone jack as internal one in your computer?
@@nul153yes
So, yours is kind of a lazy L, correct? I’m looking at the antenna, and that may be my only option. How’s it working for you? I’d have the box at around 15 feet, the first run about 65 feet, followed by another 65 or so.
@@u2fanforever1 yeah more of a lazy L. It works ok. I found it to work better with the unun about 12-15ft above ground and obviously the radiator higher. The 40m delta loop is about 4 s units better on 40. The L does well on 20 and 15. 80 is mediocre at best as well as 10. Oddly this antenna works well on 30 and 17. Overall a fan dipole would be better if you can fit it in.
Great to work you on FD Jay! W6QX
Sorry we flubbed your call for a bit hehe. Hope you had fun
@@JayN4GO I think it was me that flubbed my call, so my bad. I remember thinking I often make errors with people I know, strangers get FOC quality code all the time. FD was great, over 500 Qs by myself from my boat at anchor.

Great to get you in the log at :57 really crazy you could hear me, you were pretty strong here in San Diego. Thanks for the contact, and the ability to see and hear myself making a Q. 73 W6QX
What antenna do you use Steve
@@JayN4GO For 40m its not very good its the Diamond W735 Long Wire Dipole for 40 and 80. The center is only at about 40 feet, one end is at about 6 feet and the the other end is at about 15 feet or so. And I run only 100w. I think that is as good as I can ever do here for 40m, I have a regular 50' X100' lot here in the suburbs. 80m is really not good at all, but it does tune.
Today morning I was complaining of S9 noise in my radio on 40m. As soon as I signed, off my local friend called me and told to go for a loop antenna for RX. He told me that all the stations which I could not hear in the round table, he could hear comfortably, with a loop antenna at the ground level. 73 de Jon, VU2JO.
Wait. You can just type a frequency into the N1MM callsign field and jump to it? How did I not know this? Thanks for the tip!
Yes! We need a button for heated seats though 😂
@@JayN4GOBTW, you were my second-ever CWT contact tonight. Right after N5EE, who has the greatest callsign in the history of CW. I was surprised my name and state popped up even though I don’t remember ever working a CWT before. But maybe those history files borrow from other contests…
@@JohnMcCoy glad to see you’re enjoying cwts. They’re a lot of fun
Delta loop is at times 2 S units better. Otherwise, slightly better than the EFHW - L. Good. I love loops. I have a ~ 300 ft loop with Apex at 90' fed with ladderline. A good all band antenna.
Definitely my favorite wire antenna. Mine now has 2 corners at 40’ fed at the top corner. About 4-6s units better than the efhw. Wish I had taller trees for sure.
Dang that was me! 24:50

@@JayN4GO that Y call sign started to drop his call in there right when you said K? He was like right at the same frequency as me.

Hey Jay, great job. I don’t see you wearing headphones or ear pieces! If not, you are copying from an external speaker or radio speaker. Next year in this same test, if propagation and operating time is about the same; try using headphones and see if there is an increase in your score! 73 es GL
I have a special made ext speaker but I prefer headphones for sure. It helps a ton with accuracy! For some reason when I record and use cans at the same time ,, the audio is poor. I don’t have those issues with the k3. I opted with n4qs multi one during this contest. This was my part time effort with a new antenna. 😎
Hey Jay, looks like you had an awesome contest. I checked your RBN and looks like your antenna was rocking on 20 and 15 meters into Europe. I appreciate your sharing this video as surprisingly I was able to head copy most of the callsigns replying to your CQs. Looks like my old brain matter is able to function. I guess I'm developing some new neurons. 🧠
I feel like I’m losing some! Haha. The beam did do well. I did get worried during the high wind storms

Thanks for the QSO at 31:00. My first CW contest a part from some small CWT participation for CWA. Thanks for running slow for a bit, felt fast enough for me 😂
That’s great Erik ! Hope you stick with it.
These are really valuable to me. Thanks again!
Thanks !
Spent about 10 hours this weekend listening to the contest. The faster speeds 30/35 were tough, especially catching the contest numbers. I spent last night and today copying Zoglmann's 4 digit numbers and 30 and 35 that helped. Only caught call signs that were given once about 25% of the time. So it was a humbling experience and gives me something to push for. This is more my speed for now. Thanks 73 de KC3SJ
Kurt is a great person. He’s helped me a lot over the years I remember when I was first learning Cw , I made a video and I was completely overwhelmed with speed. I slowly started to learn faster code but I rarely need over 30 in a contest.
So Jay, how did you experience running at a lower speed?
I enjoy it. It brings people that want to understand the exchange 😂
Nice to see a great tower and beam up there. I can only dream of anything like this in my constrained space. Hope to work you on air some day. I am QRV on 40/20/15/10m with my '100W and wire'! 73 de Jon, VU2JO

Thanks Andre ! The tornados killed our power for about 6 hours 🙁
Thanks Jay. I think that a BWTH at 1 is better for the high frequency. 73, Fred from Paris, France
Should work pretty good. How high is the tower? Yes it’s a big deal to take large towers and antennas down. I think a lot harder than putting them up. I have had some moderately large towers and Yagis. I thought a Rohn 45 fold over would be a good idea. So I got one. A friend also got two on the same deliver. Not bad putting it up. It also folded over fairly easy so I could put my 6 element 10 meter on it. However when I sold the 10 meter Yagi ( six 16 foot long elements) and a 23 foot boom) and bought a 4 element 20 meter Yagi ( 33 foot elements and 26 foot boom) the fold over feature was not so good. I ended up never folding it over again. As second reason for not folding it over was my friend had a cable break on his when his antenna was almost down! Also another guy had his fold over boom break. Then I heard of others breaking! I figured it was easier and safer to just climb the tower to install and uninstall the big Yagis. Otherwise the Rohn 47 was a great tower and not so big I could not do it myself with just one helper on the ground. Mine was 70 feet. Pics are on my QRZ page. I no longer have the towers but still have the 4 element Yagi in the original box just in case…. 73, N4DJ
Hi Don! Yeah I agree! Tower work is a lot of work. Very difficult to do alone which is a huge downside. This one is only 40ft but I hope to have a 70ft one day if I can find some land like you have. Or perhaps just use the tall trees and wire. Looks like baseball season for you! I hope you get some wpx in this weekend. :)
Jay, I'm so happy for you. You've been waiting a long time for this. Enjoy it my brother!
Thank you Jim! Nicest guy on earth. Man I turned the rotor 360 degrees this evening and the swr dropped on the 6m yagi. Maybe we’ll get some E soon. It’s few n far between for us in our grid locations:)
@@JayN4GO You are sop right about 6m E signals. A couple of weeks ago I set up my Buddipole Two Element Yagi for 6 m and almost jumped out of my skin when I heard a beacon in Florida. Starting sending CQ for 5 minutes but never gone a reply. That's the way the MJAIC BAND works.
What a pleasant surprise to meet you here! Coming straight away to your channel! 73 de Jon, VU2JO.
If you ask a sportsman: When you make 10 pushups which one is the important. You get the answer: the 11th.
That’s 💯 true! I need to use this reference a lot more
Niiiiiiiiiice set up, brother.
Hi Lance! Thanks brother. We’ll see how wpx goes this weekend :)
Congrats on getting the force 12 up. I have a 3 element 6m beam by CushCraft with the driven element of a tribander (A3S) sitting below it, I haven't noticed any change in SWR at all, but I guess there's big difference in the amount of aluminum.. Have a tailtwister t2x? (I think) thing is probably overkill for my use but it works. My antennas are only ~19 ft up :(
Yeah I’m assuming it’s probably the feed point at the 6m match. I don’t think it’s interaction either. Yes , I had a local dxer warn me about the yaesu mast clamps. He only runs t2x on 3 towers. They are made of steel back before everything went Taiwanese. Haha
@@JayN4GO 6m is a rather forgiving band vis-a-vis antennas, so surprised there's an issue with it. I agree that it's likely not interaction. That said, did you check it with an antenna analyzer first? Otherwise, glad it was you and not me installing the C3...I couldn't have done it. 73! de WX0V
@@SuburbanDXing thanks man! So there’s a short somewhere on the 6m yagi. I always check the antennas with an analyzer. Today I kept the coax in the analyzer and spun the rotor and the swr dropped to 1.4. Gladly it’s to the west. Where I need grids. It does bounce back up to 6 when beaming se-east. I paid a tower monkey to do this for me. It wasn’t cheap for sure but our clubs have no tower guys. Hope you’re doing ok! Enjoying these wonderful band condx? 😆

So glad to hear you Pat ! You always have a great signal. I’m not sure what antenna setup you have but you must be in my path somehow. Last night was unique. There was a tornado on the ground about 8 miles south. The noise was very abnormal
80 is really good! I got on for the first time in 3 weeks and it was fun to be back, but I am out of practice. 73 W6QX
Glad you got on Steve ! Rough copy due to the lightning and tornado about 8 miles south.
GREAT ADVICE! I use the MorseMania app, which is fantastic. Just bumped it up to 28wpm, when I am sort of comfortable at 15wpm. I immediately can do it. I should have known better. I’ve been a rudimental drummer all my life and I think in phrases, not individual strokes. There’s something about stripping the ability to count dashes and dots and hear each letter as a whole sound that makes me able to picture the letter quicker. It’s like the slower speed gives me time to guess what the letter is going to be, then another dot or dash comes and I have to recalibrate. Screw that, get to the end of the freakin letter already, haha. Gonna go faster from now on.
Absolutely! I still get L and r mixed up at high speed they sound so similar
@@JayN4GO For some reason L (Los ANgeles) really stands out to me.
Thank you. Been wanting to see remote ops with the k3-0/k3. Great video, OM. Really enjoyed following the run. 73 de N4AAJ
Thanks Scott. I missed some very obvious ones in this one. Bands were pretty bad compared to last week. I noticed everyone was going slower than usual. There is a hint of latency but not really noticeable. Looks like the release of k4 software and k4-0 May fix a lot of this. I’m sure it’ll be with a healthy price. The software only looks pretty promising with the pan and full control. The 0700 cwt on 20m is fun at Dave’s site. Easy eu. Not quite rr quite but ok for a Mosley at 60ft. I have ghc software minimized in the background. It allows to turn the beam and 4 square verticals on 80m.
Thanks for this info. Will give it a try . 73 de N4KGY
Sorry I just saw this Bart. I find running a negative 50 shift also helps a lot
Nice! Please do a follow-up report when you get it in the air!
For sure brother
Very interesting, Jay! Could you make a video tutorial to show beginners like me how to use this remote software? 73, Mary VE3INE
Sure Mary ! There are several pieces of radio gear needed first. I’m using the rrc 1258m2 twins that mate with the k3-0 which is just the head unit.
Good to see this video; very few if any Force 12 videos out there. The 18 foot boom should give this an edge over the Mosley, but have fun getting it on the tower 🙂. My one suggestion is to film in landscape, versus portrait; 2/3rds of the screen is empty. Thanks for posting this...hope to see further videos on how this gets installed and how it works for you...73! de WX0V
Thanks man! Yeah I’m a bit nervous about it riding up as well. Lots of bouncing going on there. Yeah I meant to hold the phone sideways but didn’t want to get penitrox on my screen. That stuff has been on me for a week. Better than fiberglass I guess!

Great question Paul ! Yes I have a buffer between them. I forgot to mention that.
Thanks for the Q! Did I miss a memo? Seems like a lot of people cranked up the speed and removed spaces last night. N3RTW
I don’t think so. I did add the speed to the exchange on my end. Guess I need to slow it down. I can’t type as fast as some of these guys.
Hi Jay, an honest question. You work at 35 - 40 wpm, am I right? Aren't you afraid you miss people that can't keep up with that kind of speed? Just wondering.
Great question Rene. Long story short is yes I’m sure I miss a lot. I work around 30wpm in contests. 24 in the mst on Mondays. I think it’s foolish of me to assume people are using spotting assistance during every cwt. I think the average speed for cwts are 33-37. I’d like to hear your thoughts on it as well. Do you think most people run to fast ? Thanks
Well, it's too fast for me. I guess that if I would hear you cq'ing at this speed I would pass. Or maybe if I really wanted to work you I'd need to hear you call three or four times before I copied everything. :) So I think I would not be the only one. 30wpm would be ok for me. Lots of stations in the bigger contests work at 35+wpm too. I always wonder if that really pays off in qso numbers.
That is cool. I thought you gave up on the hunting videos.
I did. Couldn’t pass up filming these young guys. The boss was staying back watching them.
